Experimental electric car

Looks like to build electric car is not that difficult, nor that expensive. This car along with about 3 more was built in University of Transport in Sofia, Bulgaria - http://vtu.bg/ .

For this particular car, they used some Renault as a base, kept existing manual transmission and removed the air conditioner. The battery used in this car are "normal" lead batteries, one under the hood, and four more in the back.

The car is equipped with solar panels on the roof which are used mainly to charge the 12V car battery, but theoretically may help charging the main batteries.

Due to high price the car does not have super capacitor, nor "bust" function.

The engine without the batteries costs between 1000 and 2000 EUR.

This particular car can "travel" 100 km.

Another interesting thing is that even the transmission is manual, you usually do not change the shifts, but almost always use 3th shift. 4th shift is used on highway, and lower shifts only if road is really bad.

In additional of this car, they built some with automatic transmission and lithium-ion batteries.

WTI

For second day WTI is over $100 mark.

2010-10-30

Some more - CHF, AUD, WTI

This study is not that precise, nor I will use it for trading.

CHF/USD 12h

...and CHF 12h flipped :-)
because CHF is inverse chart, we flipped it.
looks like CHF made a top and now correction is under way.

AUD/USD 8h
Unlike CHF, AUD is not topped, but now it is in formation like a rectangle. However, inside the rectangle, it made lower lows (pink line).

Other currencies

CAD and GBP going nowhere and charts are not interesting for us.

Oil (WTI) - 1 day
Crude is not dynamic at all. There is formation that first may look like rectangle, but second look shows that most of the highs are higher highs - see yellow dots. Only exceptions are the two green dost. So formation is more like upper channel.

RIP Matt Simmons

Energy expert Simmons dies in North Haven
By Tux Turkel
Kennebec Journal
Matthew Simmons, an international oil expert who most recently focused on developing renewable energy from the waters off Maine, died Sunday night of an apparent heart attack, his office is reporting. He was 67.

Simmons founded the Ocean Energy Institute in 2007, hosting a grand opening of its new office last month in Rockland. The goal of the think tank and venture capital fund was to attract investment in research to make Maine a global leader in offshore wind and other ocean energy sources.

According to police reports, Simmons suffered a heart attack while in a hot tub at his home on North Haven. An autopsy is planned for today in Augusta, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Simmons was a leading energy investment banker, a former energy adviser to President George W. Bush, and author. He wrote the 2005 book “Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy,” which laid out an argument that the world was approaching peak oil production.

RXR.V update

Some time ago, I wrote
Posibility for speculative arbitrage with Penn West

Here you are updated calculation:
RXR.V     =  1.63 CAD x 8   = 13.04 CAD
PWT-UN.TO = 13.39 CAD + div = 13.01 CAD
-------
Difference: ~ 0.23%
This means that at the moment the speculation is not very good. I believe is because Penn West cut the dividend, and also the possibility of the buy deal is much greater than month ago.

Anyway, will I'm keep watching it :-)
